What line should I use with the Obalus Spinning Reel?
The Obalus spinning reel is built for versatility and strength. It supports up to 20 lb mono or fluorocarbon, and up to 30–40 lb braided line, giving you options for freshwater and light inshore saltwater fishing.
Here’s how to choose the right line for your spinning setup:
Start with 10–20 lb braid – This is the sweet spot for spinning reels. Strong, sensitive, and casts far. A 15 lb braid is ideal for bass, walleye, trout, and most freshwater species.
Mono/Fluoro (6–12 lb) – Great for beginners or when you want a little stretch and invisibility. Perfect for clear water, finesse rigs, and topwater lures.
Heavier braid (20–30 lb) – Best when fishing near heavy cover, docks, or inshore species like redfish and snook. Avoid going much heavier, as thick braid reduces casting distance on spinning gear.
Line diameter matters – Thinner line = longer casts and more capacity; thicker line = more abrasion resistance but shorter casts. Match your line to the species and environment.
Use quality line – A smooth braid or premium mono/fluoro gives better knot strength, less twist, and fewer tangles on spinning reels.
👉 Pro Tip: A 15–20 lb braid with a 10–12 lb fluorocarbon leader is the most versatile spinning setup for bass and mixed freshwater fishing. Adjust up or down depending on your target species.
