What line should I use with the Obalus Baitcaster Reel?
The Obalus reel is built to handle serious fish. It supports up to 25 lb mono or fluorocarbon, and up to 65 lb braided line.
Here’s how to choose the right line:
Start with 15–30 lb braid – It’s strong, sensitive, and great for most freshwater and light saltwater species. We don’t recommend going under 15 lb braid, as it can dig into the spool or backlash more easily.
Mono/Fluoro (12–20 lb) – Offers stretch and invisibility, good for clearer water or topwater lures.
Heavier lines (40–65 lb braid) – Ideal when fishing around thick cover, targeting big cats, pike, or inshore saltwater species.
Line diameter matters – Thicker line = more strength and abrasion resistance, but less casting distance. Choose based on your conditions.
Use quality line – Better knot strength, less memory, and fewer tangles.
Line selection depends on species, water clarity, structure, and your own fishing style. Start with 30 lb braid and adjust based on your needs.
